Fruita in 3 Days: Desert Flow and Kokopelli Cliff Singletrack
Fruita's two intermediate zones ride nothing alike. 18 Road is bermed, pumpy ridge flow you can lap all day, and the Kokopelli Loops at Loma trade flow for exposure, running singletrack along sandstone cliffs 400 feet above the Colorado River. This plan puts a full day on each and leaves a third to go back for whatever you liked best. Spring and fall are prime, and in summer you ride at dawn or you cook.
The plan
Two days split between 18 Road flow and Kokopelli cliff singletrack, with a flex third day to re-ride your favorites.
18 Road flow laps
Morning: Drive north from Fruita to the 18 Road trailhead. Warm up climbing Prime Cut, which is directional uphill-only, then drop Joe's Ridge. Lap it: Prime Cut back up, then PBR or Kessel Run down, both directional downhill-only. Zippity Do Dah is the marquee descent if your nerves are on.
Afternoon: Session the berms you rushed in the morning. The whole system is built for momentum, so laps pay off more than mileage. There's zero shade on the ridge, so carry 2 to 3 liters and get out ahead of the afternoon heat if it's warm.
Eats: Hot Tomato in Fruita for Granny's Pesto Pizza, the post-18 Road ritual. Closed Sunday and Monday, so plan around it.
Kokopelli Loops at Loma
Morning: Park at the Kokopelli Loops trailhead at Loma exit 15 off I-70. Ride Mary's Loop, the 5.6-mile main connector along the sandstone cliffs above the river. The exposure is real and unprotected, so pick your lines and don't sightsee at the edge. Steve's and Rustlers are mellower add-ons if you want more miles.
Afternoon: For the technical standout, walk down to Horsethief Bench. Fair warning: 99% of riders hike the 100-yard drop-in, a stack of large ledges and boulders, then ride the bench itself. No shame in the hike-down.
Eats: Base Camp Provisions in Fruita, walkable to Over The Edge, for post-ride food and Colorado craft beer.
Flex day, pick your zone
Morning: Go back to whichever system clicked. If it was 18 Road, the flow trails reward a second day now that you know the berms, so ride Zippity Do Dah if you skipped it. If it was Kokopelli, link Troy Built and Mack Ridge for the more advanced add-ons off Mary's Loop.
Afternoon: Keep it short and enjoy the trails you now have dialed. Fuel up before a long drive, or squeeze in one more sunset lap.
Eats: Base Camp Provisions or Hot Tomato in Fruita, depending on the day and who's open.

Pro tips
- •Neither zone needs a shuttle. Both 18 Road and Kokopelli are pedal-accessible loops, so rent from Over The Edge Sports in downtown Fruita and drive yourself to each trailhead.
- •Do not ride either system wet. The clay turns to peanut butter, the tread damages permanently, and locals will let you know about it.
- •Summer means dawn starts. Both zones are fully exposed with zero shade and 100F-plus is common, so spring and fall are the sweet spot.
This is a proven template. The planner will tune it to your days, skill, and what you want to ride in about ten seconds.
