E-Bike Shuttle Policies in 2026: Who Takes Them and Who Doesn't
E-bike policies vary wildly between shuttle operators — and some have changed their stance this season. Here's the current state across major destinations.
The Landscape
E-bike adoption in mountain biking keeps climbing, but shuttle operators haven't settled on a uniform policy. The core issue is weight: a typical e-MTB weighs 50-55 lbs versus 30-35 for an acoustic bike. That matters when you're loading 8 bikes into a van and driving up a dirt road.
Where Things Stand
Moab
Mixed bag. Coyote Shuttle takes Class 1 e-bikes on the Raptor Route and Mag 7 runs (per 2025 BLM policy update). Moab Cyclery Shuttle also accepts Class 1 on select routes — call to confirm. But Whole Enchilada Shuttle, Hazard County Shuttle, and Big Rack Shuttle all say no to e-bikes. If you're bringing an e-MTB to Moab, your shuttle options are limited.
Park City
Neither Park City Mountain Resort Lifts nor Deer Valley Resort Lifts allow e-bikes on their lifts. If you're riding an e-MTB in Park City, you'll need to pedal up — the lifts won't haul your e-bike. The trails themselves may still be rideable, but you're on your own getting to the top.
Sedona
Over the Edge Sedona Shuttle takes e-bikes — Class 1 on most Forest Service trails. Confirm current policy when booking, as USFS rules can shift. Trail access is the bigger question in Sedona — Forest Service e-bike rules vary by trail.
Bentonville
Not a major shuttle market (most trails are pedal-accessible), but both Shore Line Shuttle and Shuttle Hound accept e-bikes.
What to Do
1. Always mention your e-bike when booking. Don't show up and surprise them.
2. Ask about weight limits. Some operators cap at 55 lbs.
3. Battery policy: Some shuttles want the battery removed during transport. Bring the key.
4. Check trail access separately. Just because a shuttle will take your e-bike to the top doesn't mean you're allowed to ride the trail down. This is especially relevant on USFS land.
